Watling View School

Cafe

At Watling View we have recently developed an operational cafe called Nourish to Flourish, which is led by our HLTA cafe lead working alongside pupils in the Upper School. This provides pupils with a valuable opportunity to develop and apply skills and knowledge in a real life work based context and supports them with the skills they need for a life beyond Watling View. This includes developing skills such as communication, reading, writing, cleaning, cooking, weights and measures, capacity and money as well as developing an understanding about the world of work.

We have been awarded a 5* hygiene rating and are open to the public by pre-booking a visit.  Please click on the Booking Form tab under the School Cafe drop-down menu.

Pupils in the Upper School have the opportunity to take on a number of different roles and we have seen how well our pupils have been able to flourish in this environment. Pupils throughout the school have an opportunity to access the cafe to buy snack. This supports pupils to learn everyday skills in a school based environment which is reflective of experiences our pupils will have in the local community. We have seen how well pupils have been able to use this learnt knowledge in the local community.

At Nourish To Flourish, its more than just a place to enjoy good food — it’s a nurturing learning environment where students develop essential life skills in a supportive, real-world setting.  We empower young people with special educational needs to build confidence, independence, and practical abilities through hands-on experiences such as food preparation, customer service, teamwork, communication, and money handling.   Every task is an opportunity to grow.  Every achievement is celebrated.  And every student is supported to flourish at their own pace — gaining the skills they need for everyday life, future employment, and meaningful participation in their community.

We also have a link with a local cafe where some pupils in the Upper School complete off-site work experience.
