Science
The Science curriculum at Watling View promotes an ability for pupils to explore, inquire, investigate and understand the world around them. We want pupils to develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through a broad range of topics and develop an enthusiasm and enjoyment of scientific learning and discovery.
Pupils in the Lower / Middle school have discreet science lessons which cover a range of topics designed to deepen scientific knowledge and promote a curiosity of the world around them and develop an individuals understanding of how things work. Topics include learning about the human body, electricity, forces and reactions, the world around us, natural materials and changes of state.
To achieve the aims of our Science curriculum pupils are learn in a cross-curricular way, for example Gardening and Forest School play an important role in developing scientific knowledge and skills in a practical outside environment. Food Technology lessons reinforce learning about changes of state through and PSHEEC lessons support learning about the human body and health choices. These practical everyday learning activities mean that pupils develop an understanding about scientific concepts and knowledge in different real-life opportunities which add value and meaning to learning.
The practical nature of the science curriculum means that pupils learn in a hands on exciting way which captures the interests of pupils and results in a high quality science curriculum that provides pupils with foundations for accessing and understanding the world.
