Approaches to Learning

At the heart of Watling View's curriculum is the belief that all pupils are entitled to a stimulating personalised curriculum where each and every pupil can learn, develop and make progress. We strive to ensure the curriculum is broad, balanced and flexible for all pupils. The school is separated into the EYFS department, Lower/Middle School and Upper School.

The curriculum is based on a thematic approach and is designed to ensure personalisation for individuals and so that each and every pupil makes progress in all areas of their learning and development.

In order to achieve this at Watling view we believe our curriculum

  • Is broad, balanced and flexible to meet the needs of all our learners.
  • Is progressive and offers all pupils a chance to succeed and progress.
  • Has total communication at the heart of teaching and learning.
  • Uses the community to teach pupils using age appropriate methods.
  • Prepares our pupils for adulthood by creating clear pupil pathways working alongside parents and other agencies.
  • Has a clear framework for planning and assessment of the whole individual.
