Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Fraser Morrison has been in school for three consecutive Tuesdays to help Sunflowers with financial awareness. On the fourth Tuesday we took the local S5 bus into town and visited Metro Bank where the class had an opportunity to go through the vault, open safety deposit boxes and use the magic money machine. Students were all given a bag and money box to take home with them.
Sunflowers went to Hemel Hempstead to watch Electric Umbrella which is a collaboration of professional musicians and adults with learning disabilities. It was great as some pupils managed to join in whilst others just enjoyed the moment.
Literacy Week has proven to be a very busy week indeed!
Our wonderful trip to Harry Potter World on Monday set the theme nicely for a fun week ahead.
On Tuesday the theme was 'Language All Around Us' and pupils enjoyed a treasure hunt, exploring the school trying to find objects, words and symbols. Parents also attended our Literacy Workshop which focused on 'Total Communication'. They learned how literacy is taught across the curriculum and picked up ideas which can also be used at home.
Wednesday's theme was 'All About Instructions' and what better way to do this through fun baking sessions which encouraged the children to follow instructions and recipes cooking up some yummy magical treats.
World Book Day was on Thursday 7th March, a UNESCO initiative celebrating both books and reading. Our theme this year was of course Harry Potter. Throughout the day pupils took part in lots of activities such as swimming in the Prefects Bathroom, cooking up Potions, playing Quidditch, making Magical Music and Herbology and Wand Making in the sensory garden. It really was a delight to see lots of wonderful witches and wizards.
We have finished the week on Friday, themed 'Stories & Literature' with an interactive magical sensory story, as a fun and interactive way to end an exciting week!
We had a lovely day taking part in the Panathlon Swimming Gala at the London Olympics Swimming Pool, Aquatics Centre in Stratford.
It was a wonderful experience with lots of parent support and encouragement for all taking part.
Well done to Casper, William, Thomas, David, Valeria, Christopher, Archie and Eliza!
On Wednesday 6th March 2019, students from Watling View, worked with students from St Albans Girls School to perform at the County Dance Show. The theme for this event was 'Art in Action', presenting dance work inspired by news publications. David, Annie, Christopher, Francesco, Thomas and William had a really great time and performed an amazing dance in the matinee and evening performances.
As part of our Literacy Week supporting World Book Day, we enjoyed a whole school visit to the Harry Potter Studios in Leavesden.
Pupils really enjoyed a magical day all round!
