Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
The students thoroughly enjoyed participating in a variety of activities for World Book Day, that were linked to our theme of 'Books turned into Musicals'. They:
- were immersed in a 'Wizard of Oz' sensory story with Laura
- had the opportunity to participate in a 'Mary Poppins - flying high' session in the Gym with Sally where they climbed apparatus and had lots of fun using the parachute
- enjoyed participating in a dramatic Musical performance workshop with James and Miral
- went 'Into the Woods' with Flow, exploring the sensory garden and used their imagination to make 'potions'
- used their communication tools to make 'Matilda's chocolate cakes'
- enjoyed a 'Technicolour Dreamcoat' Attention Autism and Art session
- shared stories and Musical songs using Grid 3
We saw some fabulous outfits throughout the day too. It was a busy, but very successful day!
We held our annual Winter Sports Day today and parents were invited along to come and enjoy the fun too.
Our gym was converted into an ice rink for skating, tobogganing, curling and snowflake hunting. To warm everyone up, marshmallows were toasted in the garden, biscuits were decorated in class and of course hot chocolate was the order of the day.
A fabulous day was had by all!
Thank you for supporting our Macmillan Coffee Morning 2023 and giving generously towards this fantastic cause! We raised an amazing £384.10!!!
We had a special 'Story, Music, Art and Dance from Around the World' Theme Day, where each class spent the morning learning all about a famous story, type of music, art genre or traditional dance from different countries in the world. In the afternoon we held a variety show where classes were able to perform or showcase their work to each other.
The week beginning the 15th January was Numeracy Week at Watling View School. We had a theme each day and pupils learnt about the concepts of measure, pattern, number, money, capacity and shape. Friday was a Numeracy Theme Day and our pupils went on a school wide shape hunt and took part in lots of fun Maths activities in the Gym.
Watling View are pleased to have been accredited in the Leading Parent Partnership Award. Over the past 18 months, the school has been gaining evidence to go towards this award and in December we the school received the final monitoring visit.
The report highlighted some of the following strengths within the school.
Parents are offered a wide range of information on their child’s learning and progress. General curriculum coverage is provided, for example through half termly summaries and information on the website. Information on learning and progress reflects the very individual needs of each child. Examples include daily written 2 way communication through professionally produced, thoughtfully designed home school diaries and the Evidence for Learning app (EFL). Personalised Learning Goals are shared every term, Annual Reviews can be in school or virtual depending on parents preference and teacher ‘drop-ins’ are regularly available.
The range of events for parents to come into school is established and embedded with a programme of events during the year and a calendar of events for each term during this academic year is already posted on the website. The school is clear about the focus and priorities of different types of events
and pupils knew of a range of events, such as sports days, performances and sibling mornings. The Parent School Association has raised funds for facilities such as a courtyard garden and areas for learning and play and also provides opportunities for parents to be involved in the life of the school.
We are pleased with the result of this and want to continue to build on our partnerships with our parents and carers.
We wanted to thank our Bus drivers and PA's for all their hard work so we invited them into our cafe, Nourish to Flourish, for mince pies and drinks.
The staff and children had a fantastic morning singing carols at St Bartholomews church!
A huge well done and thank you to everyone for the efforts you have all put in towards making this morning’s performance a success. It was wonderful to see our pupils once again rise to the occasion on the big stage, in front of a record-breaking crowd of just over 100 in the audience. A big thank you to all our families, it means so very much to our children and young people to see someone from their family in the audience.
These kind of events are a huge deal for our pupils, and families take huge pride in seeing their children participate and achieve. Many of us were overwhelmed with laughter, tears and a true feeling of Christmas spirit. None of it would be possible without the hard work of our teachers in planning creative and inclusive scenes and the time spent practising. This work ultimately depends upon the underlying secure relationships and understanding you establish and develop with your pupils each and every day. Well done to all!
